Powergen Reports High Satisfaction with Exstream Software's Dialogue; Leading UK Energy Supplier Reduces Costs and Speeds Time to Market with Critical Customer Communications

Business Wire, August 16, 2004

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Exstream Software, Inc. announced today that Powergen, the UK's second largest energy supplier, is successfully using its Dialogue software to create personalized customer documents in a UNIX environment for greater efficiency. Powergen currently services more than 9 million gas and electricity customer accounts in the UK. The company has been operating in both a mainframe and UNIX environment since the UK deregulated the utility industry in 1998. Powergen chose Dialogue because it allowed the energy company to easily move to UNIX and decommission its legacy mainframe. Dialogue also offered Powergen improved productivity and flexibility. Dialogue's robust capabilities made it possible for Powergen to migrate applications without extensive programming, saving in training and labor expense. Powergen also reports that Dialogue has reduced development time, allowing the company to get to market faster with critical customer communications.

Dialogue provides Powergen the flexibility needed by marketing to include rule-driven relevant offers and messages on statements and bills to create a more customer-centric environment. Dialogue supports any TrueType or Adobe font and dynamically creates or converts all fonts, images and overlays, making it easier and faster to ensure corporate mandated branding is followed. And since Powergen wanted to move from its traditional EBCDIC data environment to XML, Dialogue's ability to visually map and process XML input eliminated many person-hours.

"A key driver in choosing Dialogue was that it operated efficiently on UNIX, and gave us future flexibility through the choice of modules. Since implementing the software, we've significantly reduced development time and achieved a speed to market we never thought possible," said Emily Ashton, technical manager for Powergen. "Going forward, we're planning on using Dialogue to develop even more personalized customer communications, such as sales kits, contracts, notices and collection letters."

Davis Marksbury, president and CEO of Exstream Software, said, "We're pleased that Dialogue is providing Powergen with the ability to meet the challenge of migrating successfully to UNIX and gain productivity at the same time. Exstream's ongoing mission is to provide a common architecture that makes it easy and efficient to create accurate and timely personalized customer communications across the enterprise."
