Introducing Logitech BuddyCam: Two Webcams, Twice the Fun; QuickCam Package Built-for-Two Allows Friends and Family to Keep in Touch with Video Instant Messaging
Business Wire, August 2, 2004
FREMONT, Calif. -- Logitech (SWX:LOGN) (Nasdaq:LOGI), the world's leading manufacturer of Web cameras, today announced the Logitech(R) BuddyCam(TM), a two-pack of webcams made for giving and receiving. Because video communication over the Internet with friends and family is more fun when both people have a webcam, the Logitech BuddyCam package contains two of the company's best-selling QuickCam(R) cameras -- one in a pre-packaged gift pack. Customers can keep one and give one to a friend or to a child heading off to college. The Logitech BuddyCam is now available in select U.S. retail stores and online at www.logitech.com for a suggested retail price of $79.95.
"Every day, more and more people are discovering how much fun it is to stay in touch through video instant messaging," said Collette Bunton, Logitech vice president of sales and marketing for the Americas Region. "The Logitech BuddyCam makes it easy and affordable for a pair of friends to stay connected, whether they're nearby or miles apart. Families can have virtual get-togethers during the holidays, while parents can stay close to a child who's away at school."
The Logitech BuddyCam cameras work with the AOL(R) Instant Messenger(TM) (AIM(R)) service, for which Logitech has been named a preferred Webcam provider. This two-pack is aimed especially at the burgeoning teen market. According to recent statistics, 71 percent of teenagers use instant messaging on a regular basis.
"Video instant messaging is very popular with our teen and young adult users, a large, rapidly growing segment of the 36 million active AIM users in the US," said Edmund Fish, senior vice president and general manager, Desktop Messaging, America Online, Inc. "It has become a favorite application since its debut in AIM 5.5 in February of this year, but it's not just for teens; in fact, our recent research reveals that more than 15 percent of instant messaging users in the U.S. find video instant messaging to be one of the most important features for them."
Logitech's QuickCam webcams work with all leading instant messaging applications including AOL(R) Instant Messenger(TM) (AIM(R)), MSN(R) Messenger, and Yahoo!(R) Instant Messenger. They are simple to install and come with easy-to-use software for creating Web albums to post to popular photo sharing sites. Photos and videos are easy to capture and share via email. Each camera includes an integrated microphone, for use with audio applications.
