Australian Government Deploys Netli Services; Netli Expands Netli One Platform to Australia and New Zealand to Meet Customer Demand
Business Wire, August 24, 2004
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Netli, the global leader of Application Delivery Network (ADN) services, announced today that its services are now deployed by the Australian government, enabling end users around the globe to experience local-like response times to the Australia.com site. Australia.com is the most comprehensive tourism and travel site in Australia and is managed by the government agency Tourism Australia. Netli also announced that it has dramatically increased the reach of its services by expanding infrastructure into Australia and New Zealand.
Tourism is one of Australia's largest export industries and the site (Australia.com) is used as the main global marketing vehicle for Tourism Australia, and therefore performance is vital. In an attempt to deliver a quality end-user experience to visitors from around the world, Tourism Australia operated a data center in Australia and one in the United States. The U.S. data center was deployed in Boston to ensure improved performance to North American and European visitors, while the data center in Sydney served as its development and contingency environment. As application functionality and content was added to the site, it became more difficult and costly to maintain the geographically dispersed data center in the U.S.
In early 2004, Tourism Australia began looking at vendors that could provide local-like performance worldwide for a consolidated infrastructure in Australia. Netli was selected over content delivery network (CDN) vendors because it offers Netli One, an Application Delivery Network (ADN) that transparently optimizes both dynamically generated and static content from a centralized location. Unlike CDN offerings, the solution is seamless to implement and requires no changes to the site.
Since subscribing for the NetLightning service, end users from around the world can now reach Australia.com in about one second and Tourism Australia has been able to consolidate its data centers in Australia. The second data center is used for backup and leverages NetliContinuity to ensure the site is always available.
"Tourism Australia's goal for Australia.com is to promote the Australian tourism experience worldwide to ensure that prospective visitors continue to travel to our country and have the experience of a lifetime when they visit," said Roberto Martinelli, chief technology officer of Tourism Australia. "Netli services significantly help us achieve these goals by expanding the quality of our global reach and improving the overall experience for end users worldwide, while allowing us to centralize our infrastructure. The service turn-up process was effortless and very effective. By introducing Netli services, we have secured extra reliability of availability of Australia.com and improved the site's performance by 125 percent to 200 percent globally."
Netli's expansion into Australia and New Zealand was based on customer demand, the significant number of multi-national companies doing business in these countries and the number of Internet users in each market.
"Netli continues to help organizations increase revenue, expand into new markets and streamline operations," said Willie Tejada, vice president of marketing and business development for Netli. "Now that we have expanded our platform, Netli is able to provide services throughout Australia and New Zealand, continuing to fulfill a global need for improved Web application performance and reliability."
The Netli One platform includes NetLightning, NetliContinuity and NetliView. NetLightning, Netli's flagship offering, delivers a business-quality Internet with global sub-second response times, high availability and secure access to Web applications. NetliContinuity meets the requirements for failover, backup or regulatory compliance for organizations with two or more data centers. Finally, NetliView is a comprehensive measurement and reporting service, which enables organizations to continuously monitor the health of their business-critical, Netli-optimized applications.
