Berdon LLP Counts on VERITAS Software, with 100 Percent Confidence, for Data Protection and Disaster Recovery Solutions
Business Wire, August 24, 2004
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- SMB Customer Finds VERITAS Software Cost-Effective, Intuitive, and Easy to Implement
VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq:VRTS) today announced that Berdon LLP, one of the nation's most successful accounting and advisory firms, has increased the reliability of its backup and recovery process using VERITAS data protection and recovery solutions. VERITAS has also played a critical role in helping Berdon consolidate and centralize its data backup, establish reliable disaster recovery capabilities and dramatically increase the amount of data able to be backed up in less time.
Berdon is a full-service accounting and financial management company and ranks among the top 20 CPA firms in the country. With more than 350 professionals and staff at offices in New York City and Jericho, Long Island, the firm's clients operate in a broad spectrum of industries and professions, from renowned entertainment companies to successful multinational corporations.
"As a thriving accounting firm, our clients trust us with their most critical financial data, so it's imperative that company and client data is protected reliably and in real-time," says David Pikelny, Network Administrator for Berdon LLP. "Using VERITAS software, we are 100 percent confident that all of our data, whether located at the central office or our remote office is being protected at all times."
To safeguard critical data -- nearly a terabyte in all -- including accounting records, invoices and client communications, Berdon uses VERITAS Backup Exec(TM) for Windows Servers and VERITAS Storage Replicator software to backup and replicate data reliably and in real-time across both the New York City and Jericho offices. "We chose VERITAS software because we needed a cost-effective, intuitive and easy to implement data protection solution," explains Pikelny, who worked with VERITAS partners Dell and AMC Computer Corp. to purchase and deploy the software.
Historically, Berdon backed up data separately for each location using tape drives and jukeboxes for storage. Without a consolidated, centralized backup strategy, nightly backups were time-consuming and difficult to manage, and because data was stored locally rather than replicated to remote sites, the firm was more vulnerable to data loss in the event of a disaster or system failure.
Using VERITAS Backup Exec software, considered the leading Windows server backup software used by small to medium-size businesses around the world, Berdon can now manage its backup process with minimal effort through a centrally controlled, reliable and efficient system that serves the firm's present needs and will scale to support increasing data requirements in the future. With Backup Exec, which is used by 61 percent of SMBs surveyed in a recent Gartner study(1), Berdon is now able to backup more data in the same amount of time as compared to the previous tape-based solution, enabling the firm to deal with ever increasing volumes of data.
In addition, with VERITAS Storage Replicator, Berdon now replicates data from the Jericho office to the New York City office, and vice versa, giving them two locations where backup data is stored in the event of a disaster.
"Our midtown office is only a block from Grand Central Station, so we're in a vulnerable area," says Pikelny. "If something catastrophic occurs, we need to ensure that our business and our clients can continue on. VERITAS solutions provide us with the technology and capabilities to do just that."
