Sampo Licenses Genesis Microchip's Patent; Worldwide License for Scaling Technology
Business Wire, August 25, 2004
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Genesis(R) Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for LCD TVs and other consumer display products, today announced that Sampo Technology Corporation, a leading OEM supplier of LCD TVs and monitors, has entered into an agreement to license Genesis Microchip's U.S. Patent No. 5,739,867 and its foreign counterpart patents on a royalty-bearing basis. As a result of the recent U.S. International Trade Commission determination that MStar Semiconductor, Inc., Media Reality Technologies, Inc. and Trumpion Microelectronics, Inc. infringe Genesis Microchip's U.S. Patent No. 5,739,867, and the issuance of an exclusion order prohibiting the importation of these companies' infringing products, Sampo agreed to license the patent to enable the continued importation of its LCD monitors and LCD TVs into the United States as well as continue worldwide sales on a fully-licensed basis.
"This worldwide license agreement enables Sampo to continue selling cost-effective consumer display products containing Genesis' patented upscaling technology in all of the countries where our patent is issued or pending," said Robert Lensch, Genesis Microchip's vice president of business development. "We are pleased that this agreement will help ensure continued delivery of Sampo products to the consumer."
Terms of the agreement are confidential.
