Samsung and Genesis Microchip Enter Into Licensing Agreement

Business Wire, August 26, 2004

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Genesis(R) Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for LCD TVs and other consumer display products, today announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Under the terms of the agreement, Samsung will receive a license to the Genesis patents that were the subject of Genesis's litigation in the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), including the patent that the ITC recently determined was infringed by MStar Semiconductor, Inc., Media Reality Technologies, Inc. and Trumpion Microelectronics, Inc.

"This license agreement enables Samsung to continue importing consumer display products containing Genesis' patented upscaling technology into the United States," said Robert Lensch, Genesis Microchip's vice president of business development. "We are pleased that this agreement will help ensure continued delivery of Samsung products to the consumer."

Other terms of the agreement are confidential.
