IDC Says Overall Router Market Revenues in Asia/Pacific and Japan Were $617 Million in Q1 2004
Business Wire, August 3, 2004
SINGAPORE -- The results of IDC's Asia/Pacific including Japan (APJ) Quarterly LAN Tracker show that overall router market revenues in APJ were $617 million in Q1 2004. Cisco Systems, Inc. continues to be the overall routing market leader. The High End segment, which includes the core routing market, was the largest market segment and accounted for 60% of the value of shipments in the quarter. Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks together garnered nearly 90% of end-user spending for High End routers. Cisco maintained its leadership position in the core routing market in the first quarter of 2004. IDC forecasts the total router market in APJ will have a compound annual growth rate of 5.8% from 2004-2008, with total revenues reaching $3 billion by the end of the forecast period.
This data supersedes information about this market previously released by IDC in the Asia/Pacific Quarterly LAN Tracker, which, IDC subsequently determined, understated certain country markets and therefore incorrectly represented the market for core routers in Asia/Pacific including Japan in the first quarter. The erroneous data was relied upon, with IDC's permission, by Juniper Networks in a press release dated July 26, 2004 prior to the issuance of this revised information.
IDC's Asia/Pacific Quarterly LAN Tracker provides detailed analyses and forecasts of the LAN equipment market (hubs, network interface cards, LAN switches and routers) for the Asia/Pacific region. In addition, it reviews product strategies, market positioning, and future direction of the leading providers in the LAN hardware market.
