Murfreesboro Medical Clinic Implements Paperless EMR from Allscripts; TouchWorks Offers Improved Patent Data Access
Business Wire, August 3, 2004
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. & CHICAGO -- Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced today that Murfreesboro Medical Clinic has selected the TouchWorks(TM) EMR (electronic medical record) for their 55 physicians. Murfreesboro will use the TouchWorks EMR to improve access to patient data through paperless operations.
Murfreesboro's paper-based system presented challenges in routing patient data to physicians quickly. Currently, the organization has separate call center rooms for each of their departments that manage and route paper messages and charts. The resulting paper from these processes incurs financial and labor costs to maintain, and can cause bottlenecks and delays when transporting paper-based data from one department to another. Utilizing the Internet-based architecture of TouchWorks, physicians, nurses and staff will be able to retrieve patient records instantly and electronically from any location, including the clinic, the hospital or even their homes.
"Automating with the TouchWorks EMR will enable our physicians to access the patient information they need anytime and anywhere, without a team of support staff pushing carts of paper around the clinic all day, every day," said Joey Peay, Chief Executive Officer of Murfreesboro Medical Clinic. "We've invested heavily in our IDX practice management system and the integration with TouchWorks will help us to further leverage that asset."
Murfreesboro will integrate TouchWorks with their existing Groupcast solution from IDX Systems Corporation (Nasdaq:IDXC). Groupcast is the leading provider of patient management, financial management, and decision support solutions for mid-to-larger-size group medical practices and physician service organizations. Through a strategic partnership between Allscripts and IDX, TouchWorks offers robust integration between clinical automation and practice management to the physicians and patients of Murfreesboro.
"Integration between IDX practice management systems and TouchWorks provides rapid access to the information physicians need to make the best decisions for their patients," commented Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions. "This combined level of automation and integration delivers critical patient data to the physician who needs it exactly when they need it most, which results in better, safer, and more efficient care for patients."
