Momentum Builds for Quest Software's Open Source Database Development Solution — New Linux Support Announced
Business Wire, August 3, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO -- More than 13,000 Users Download the Preview Release of Toad for MySQL Within Four Months of Availability
At LinuxWorld, Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and Windows management solutions, today announced its increasing momentum for open source tools with the rapid adoption of the Quest Toad(R) for MySQL preview release. Within the first four months of the product's availability, it accumulated over 13,000 user downloads. Quest also announced today that the preview release of Toad for MySQL will be available for Linux desktops this month.
As a leader in the database development space with Toad for Oracle, Quest Software has cultivated a strong following of hundreds of thousands of developers and database administrators. Currently available for download at no cost, the Toad for MySQL preview release is a database development tool that enhances developer and administrator productivity by providing an integrated development environment to quickly create and execute queries, automate database object management and develop SQL code more efficiently.
"As the popularity of MySQL grows and its use in production enterprise environments increases, developers and administrators need tools that enable them to easily develop their skills in building high-quality database applications," said Larry Humphries, vice president, development solutions, Quest Software. "We are excited by the overwhelming adoption rate that the Quest Toad for MySQL preview release has received. We believe its rapid acceptance can be attributed to the combination of Quest's strong following of hundreds of thousands of developers and database administrations and the increasing popularity of MySQL as their database of choice."
MySQL is a high-performance open-source database for enterprise applications that is reliable and easy to use. The Toad for MySQL preview release is specifically designed to optimize user productivity and is suitable for various skill levels of individuals involved in MySQL development projects. Toad for MySQL also provides utilities to compare, extract and search for objects, manage projects, import/export data, and view MySQL database statistics.
"Our staff has been using Toad for Oracle for many years and was introduced to the Toad for MySQL preview release at the MySQL Users Conference in April of 2004. I believe it was the single most important partner announcement made at the conference because it delivers immediate user benefit," said Carl M. Rubin, managing partner, OpenSource Advisors. "Upon installing Toad for MySQL, they became instant MySQL experts, without training. With a consistent interface, it provides technical professionals with the ability to move seamlessly from Oracle to MySQL development. Toad enables developers to be confident and comfortable developing with MySQL, with its ease of use and powerful functionality."
"We applaud the success of the preview release of Quest Software's Toad for MySQL and believe it will empower developers to more easily transition from other database solutions and incorporate MySQL into their enterprise environments," said Bertrand Matthelie, director of Alliances for MySQL AB. "We enthusiastically look forward to continuing to support our partnership with Quest Software and the potential for market growth it brings."
The Quest Toad for MySQL preview release is currently available at no cost to users. Its Windows support was made available on April 15. Linux desktop support will be previewed at LinuxWorld, booth number 1259, and will be available for download in mid-August.
