Business Wire, Dec 13, 2004
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- Bodog.com Sports Casino Poker(TM) has released odds on who will take home one of the 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards.
With the announcement of the nominees having only just come out, Bodog.com is pleased to be the first to offer odds on which films, directors, and actors will win awards this year.
"The Golden Globe Awards have had a history of predicting not only the Academy Award nominees, but also a majority of the winners for the Oscar's," said Rob Gillespie, President of Bodog.com Sports Casino Poker. "Johnny Depp, Jamie Foxx and Clint Eastwood all look like they have a viable shot at taking home some of the hardware."
For Best Motion Picture in a Drama, "Finding Neverland" is taking the lead at 1/1 odds, with "Kinsey" on the outside at 6/1. Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy has this season's touching depiction "Ray" as the leader at 1/2, with "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" very close behind at Even odds. The Best Director sees Hollywood staple Clint Eastwood once again topping the list for "Million Dollar Baby." Eastwood is listed at 1/1 odds, with "Sideways" director Alexander Payne the long shot at 6/1. Also nominated from "Million Dollar Baby" is Morgan Freeman, the favorite to capture Best Supporting Actor. Freeman is listed at 1/2 odds, and fellow journeyman actor David Carridine at 3/1 odds for "Kill Bill Vol. 2." Supporting Actress has Meryl Streep as the favorite for her powerful performance in "The Manchurian Candidate." Streep is sitting at 1/2 odds, with Virginia Madsen on the outside at 6/1.
Best Actor in a Drama has a battle between Johnny Depp at 1/2 odds, and Leonardo DiCaprio at 1/1. Best Actor Musical or Comedy also has a battle between the touching performance by Jamie Foxx, and the off beat performance of Canadian Jim Carey. Both are listed at 2/1 odds. Best Drama Actress sees Uma Thurman as the early favorite with her chilling performance in "Kill Bill Vol. 2." Thurman is sitting at 1/1 odds, with Imelda Staunton's performance in "Vera Drake" on the outside at 7/1. Best Actress Musical or Comedy has the British beauty Kate Winslett as the favorite at 2/1 odds, which is tied with Annette Benning's job in "Being Julia."
"`Ray' was one of the best movies I have seen recently, and perhaps one of the best movies I have ever seen," said Gillespie. "This is a tough list to predict a winner from, since all of the movies were fantastic, and the performances that the actors and actresses put on were all riveting in their own way."
