SA Forum Announces Call for Papers for International Service Availability Symposium; Symposium Will Bring Together International Service Availability Experts

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Service Availability(TM) Forum (SA Forum), today announced the Call for Papers for the International Service Availability Symposium (ISAS) 2005. The symposium will take place April 25-26, 2005, at the Hotel Berlin in Germany, and is co-sponsored by the SA Forum and the GI/ITG Technical Committee "Dependability and Fault Tolerance." The deadline for paper submissions is January 15, 2005.

"We encourage submissions from the industrial, research and academic communities to submit papers based on their research and experience with service availability," said Miroslaw Malek, Professor and Chair of Computer Architecture and Communication at Humboldt University in Berlin and General Chair for ISAS 2005. "By bringing together all of these sectors, we hope to address and continue to resolve key problems of service availability at ISAS."

ISAS 2005 will address:

--Service Implementations: What services are under development and how do these services address availability requirements? How can service development profit from standards, such as those specified by the SA Forum?

--Service Deployment and Operation: What are critical issues in the roll-out of services and what is important for the uninterrupted deployment of service updates?

--Telco Infrastructure Providers including IT Manufacturers: What is the state of the art in dependability infrastructure and what standards are available for use? What products are on the market or under development to fulfill those standards?

"Last year's symposium brought together key players in the service availability field and provided valuable networking opportunities for all participants," said Manfred Reitenspiess, joint publicity chair for ISAS and 2004 president of the SA Forum. "This year's event will provide all speakers with worldwide recognition of their research and strides to achieving 99.999% availability."

Topics for ISAS 2005 papers include:

--Description of services - publication, discovery, selection, binding, behavior

--Availability standards for service implementation, certification, support

--Availability issues in open service platforms

--Composition - specification, coordination, conformance, monitoring, QoS

--Service fault models, semantics - detection, recovery, responsiveness

--Dependable service composability - functional, operational

--Service infrastructures - hardware, software, middleware, networks

--Service development, analysis, testing - models, environments, tools

--Service requirement - availability, deployment upgrades

--Service management - certification, rating, service agreements, support

--Interfaces for service implementers - usability, security, availability

--Existing products and their availability features - services under deployment, deployed services, infrastructure

--Application examples with strict service availability requirements

Authors are encouraged to submit papers on original, unpublished work describing current research and novel ideas in the area of service computing. All papers should be submitted by January 15 to the conference Web site at www.informatik.hu-berline.de/rok. The submitted papers will be reviewed by a committee of service availability experts from leading universities and companies around the world. Authors will be notified of acceptance on March 1, 2005.
