Macromedia Breeze Brings Significant Cost Reductions to Sony Communication Network Corporation; Solution Helps Train Employees on Latest Security Measures
Business Wire, Dec 14, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO -- Macromedia (Nasdaq:MACR) today announced that Sony Communication Network Corporation (So-net) has adopted Macromedia(R) Breeze(TM) to reduce its employee training costs by enabling the rapid delivery and tracking of online training content.
Since 1996, So-net has delivered a thorough in-house training program on information security. Due to limited resources, test results and knowledge retention were never previously tracked. This year, the company began using Breeze to deliver and manage its online training programs and has redefined the way the company will train its employees moving forward. > "So-net had content owners without e-learning design skills, and designers without the ability to quickly create effective online courses, and Macromedia Breeze bridges that gap," said Kevin M. Lynch, vice president, e-learning and collaboration, Macromedia. "Breeze unlocks knowledge within an organization by empowering non-technical professionals to use Microsoft PowerPoint to develop rich, engaging e-learning content that can be easily delivered and tracked online.""When I saw the demo for Breeze, and that you could transform reference materials in PowerPoint to Flash(R) format, it made me think that even I could use it," said Nagamasa Kato, SEC section, compliance division, So-net. "Since the content of the training program includes confidential documents, our aim was to create them internally instead of outsourcing. Once I realized that using Breeze would eliminate the skills barrier for content creation, I did not hesitate to adopt the software at So-net."
So-net saved money by not having to outsource the design of the training content because the workers already knew how to use PowerPoint. Because Breeze was so easy to use, So-net recovered its investment within three months. Breeze also helped So-net reduce the time and effort necessary for content production, data management, course implementation, knowledge testing, course tracking, and results analysis.
Prior to Breeze, written tests were used more to gauge attendance than to assess whether employees understood the training materials. With Breeze, tests were given to all attendees, and both the attendance and participant knowledge of the material could be tracked immediately. The company also plans to save travel costs and unnecessary schedule adjustments by offering the courses on an on-demand basis over the web. As a result, the instructor will no longer have to give close to 50 hours of lectures for each training program. Information such as legal regulations can also be updated on a more frequent basis, which improves the information security knowledge of the company.
