IIJ Adds Spam Filter to IIJ4U Service for Consumer Customers
Business Wire, Dec 15, 2004
TOKYO -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced it will add a spam filter feature to its Internet service for consumer customers, IIJ4U, starting December 16, 2004.
The amount of spam, unsolicited E-mail sent to PCs and mobile phones, is growing dramatically year after year, and with it, the damage from computer viruses and Internet fraud. In a survey of IIJ4U users conducted by IIJ between October and November 2004, the number of people who had received spam mail was 96%, and 13% of those surveyed reported receiving a fraudulent bill, which is another indication of the seriousness of the problem.
IIJ took the MX Logic Email Defense Gateway - Service Provider Edition it uses to provide spam filtering for its corporate E-mail outsourcing service, and applied it to the service for consumer customers. This spam filter feature determines a spam rating, expressed as a percentage, for all mail addressed to a customer. The filter is then set based on a particular spam mail score, enabling spam mail to be sent to the trash folder on the IIJ4U server without users ever having to download it to their computer.
This new filtering function is provided free of charge to customers using the optional Virus Protection service, which detects and deletes viruses. There are also plans to extend this spam filtering feature to IIJmio in early 2005.
IIJ will continue to expand its services to provide a safer mail environment for all customers.
