Wavelink and Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Receive IDG's InfoWorld 100 Award; Wavelink Customer Named in Top 100 Innovative Corporate IT Solutions for 2004

Business Wire, Dec 16, 2004

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Wavelink Corporation, a leading provider of mobile infrastructure management software, today announced that its customer, the Pinellas County Sherriff's Office, has received the InfoWorld 100 Award from IDG's InfoWorld. Selected as one of five innovative technologies awarded in the law enforcement category, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deployed an advanced wireless network at one of Florida's largest jail facilities using solutions from Wavelink.

"InfoWorld honors a host of innovative projects that highlight the resourcefulness of the IT community," said Eric Knorr, senior features editor. "The InfoWorld 100 provides a forum for IT managers to get the recognition they deserve for smart projects from an audience of their peers."

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was among the first organizations to deploy an advanced wireless jail management system, which assures that conditions for the inmates, deputies and staff are at the highest levels of safety and efficiency at all times. The innovative wireless network supports a variety of handheld devices and applications used by deputies and other staff to monitor inmate health and well-being, provide instant access to inmate records and photos, record location of inmates, and support wireless Voice over IP (VoIP) communications among deputies -- all designed to maximize the safety and efficiency of the day-to-day jail operations.

"We are honored to be a part of the InfoWorld 100 with Wavelink," said Tom Baumgartner, network analyst, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. "Implementing our advanced wireless jail management system has been a complex process and Wavelink's solutions have allowed us to get the wireless network up and running, integrate multi-vendor infrastructure solutions, and assure peak performance and security with minimal time and resources."

"Wavelink is extremely honored to have its technology recognized in the wireless industry by InfoWorld," said David Bullis, CEO and president of Wavelink. "Working with customers like Pinellas County illustrates the crucial need for reliable and secure WLAN management."

The InfoWorld 100 awards honor companies that demonstrate the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goals. Organizations were nominated by InfoWorld readers, technology partners and end-user companies in late summer.
