Cherokee International Squeezes 60 Percent More Power into Its DPS2000 2000W AC/DC Front-End Power Supply Fits SSI Footprint
Business Wire, Dec 3, 2004
TUSTIN, Calif. -- Cherokee International (NASDAQ:CHRK), a leading manufacturer of power supplies, today announced its DPS2000 front-end power supply. The DPS2000 is a 2U, 48-volt (V), 2000-watt (W), AC/DC front-end power supply for high-end blade servers, storage, and network equipment using distributed power architectures. To meet next-generation infrastructure requirements, the DPS2000 provides 60 percent more power over the prior 1200W DPS model and delivers 1000W at low-line 110VAC. Though no current Server System Infrastructure (SSI) guidelines are indicated for power supplies at this power level, Cherokee International is providing its customers a viable alternative with this 2000W solution, which adheres to the SSI guidelines. The DPS2000 turns out 13W per cubic inch and features active current sharing, hot-swap capabilities, N 1 redundancy and an I2C interface.
Cherokee International's DPS2000 meets strict EMI Class B regulations and measures just 4.86 inches high, 2.74 inches wide and 12.80 inches long. The DPS2000 is power-factor corrected and boasts an efficiency of 87 percent at full load, protects against over-temperature conditions, and does not have a pre-load requirement.
The DPS2000 features conveniences such as an adjustable fan speed, which minimizes audible noise for office environments. For quick installation or removal of the power supply without using tools, the power supply has a collapsible handle. Status and alarm indicators display AC failure, power good and other conditions. The DPS2000 is easily upgradable via flash memory, which stores vital information even when the power is off.
Mike Wagner, vice president of marketing for Cherokee International commented, "There are many applications, such as customers building next-generation blade servers, who have adopted the 48V, DPS SSI standard, yet this standard applies mainly to systems for lower power levels." Wagner explained, "For higher power needs up to 2000W, the DPS2000 front-end provides an economical 2U, 48-volt front-end, which is backwards compatible with the previous generation, allowing a user to easily upwardly scale their power platform without having to make drastic changes to their card cage or backplane."
Pricing and Availability
The DPS2000 is available now at $299 for OEM quantities.
