Applix Listed in Analyst Firm's Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms; Applix Evaluated on ''Ability to Execute'' and ''Completeness of Vision''

Business Wire, Dec 6, 2004

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -- Applix, Inc. (Nasdaq: APLX), a global provider of single platform solutions for Business Intelligence (BI) and Business Performance Management (BPM) solutions, has appeared on Gartner Inc.'s Magic Quadrant* for Business Intelligence Platforms, 2H 04(1). This is the second appearance for Applix in this Magic Quadrant and comes on the heels of Applix's inclusion in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Corporate Performance Management Suites, 2004(2).

"2004 has been a superb year for Applix on many fronts," said David Mahoney, CEO and president, Applix, Inc. "We have been focused entirely on enhancing our core analytics engine TM1, adding performance management components such as TM1 Planning Manager and improving integration with other major data sources such as Microsoft's Analysis Services and SAP Business Warehouse. Our software now has increased ability to scale, greater agility and flexibility and further leverages Excel as its easy-to-use, familiar interface, shaping TM1 into the most comprehensive planning and analytics solution available today in a single package.

"In addition to the product developments, we have re-aligned our sales strategy, are focused on expanding our sales channels and are spending a great deal of time working more closely with our customers on product direction. The great strides we have made are clearly reflected in the industry's assessment of our business," continued Mahoney.

Additionally, the report covers the buying atmosphere and overall market dynamics for the business intelligence space. In the report, Gartner states, "Given the prevalent buying dynamics, BI will continue to be dominated by pure-play vendors through 2008." This is a trend that Applix has seen first-hand in its sales engagements worldwide.

The just-released report, "Magic Quadrants for Enterprise BI Suites and Platforms, 2H04," authored by Gartner analysts Howard Dresner, Bill Hostmann and Frank Buytendijk, is available on www.gartner.com. The Magic Quadrant for Corporate Performance Management Suites, 2004, released on October 15, 2004 is also available on the Gartner Web site.
