Business Wire, Dec 8, 2004
BURBANK, Calif. -- Break out the jams, wax up the board and get stoked when Warner Home Video (WHV) surfs into stores with the all-new, full-length animated feature "Aloha Scooby-Doo!," the latest original title featuring more high-jinks and adventures with the loveable Scooby-Doo and the gang.
WHV has designated a February 8, 2005 street date for this new title available on DVD with a $24.98 SRP and on VHS with a $14.94 SRP.
"Aloha Scooby-Doo!" finds our favorite Great Dane and his pals Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, and Velma heading to Hawaii for a big surfing contest which ends up being disrupted by the grumblings of a nearby volcano and the disappearance of a star surfer. Scooby-Doo and the gang snorkel, paraglide and surf their buns off while battling the mysterious appearance of "Wiki-Tiki" and trying to solve the mystery before the volcano erupts.
Special features on the DVD include:
--"Hula Hullabaloola," National Geographic featurette on Hawaii, surfing, and ancient customs (produced especially for kids!)
--"Aloha Scooby-Doo!" interactive challenge with multiple levels
--An Evening with the Scooby Gang: Q&A session
--"The Wiki-Tiki Tail," featurette on tales of "Aloha Scooby-Doo!"
--Original soundtrack including songs from Don Ho and Dick Dale
--Trailers
"Aloha Scooby-Doo!" contains a unique blend of CGI and traditional animation. The movie also features the voices of Casey Kasem, Tia Carrere, Mario Lopez and Teri Garr!
"Aloha Scooby-Doo!" carries on the rich tradition of the world famous cartoon that has entertained millions of fans for more than 30 years. Scooby-Doo continues to be one of the most beloved brands among kids 6-11 and moms with over 95% awareness (Spring 2004 Q Score Report) and appeals equally to both boys and girls. Scooby-Doo's extraordinary success has resulted in a host of titles for television, made-for-video movies, and a 2002 live action feature film starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini. The film was a major success, grossing over $153 million, which prompted Warner Bros. Pictures to develop and produce a sequel. "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" opened in theaters nationwide in March 2004, grossed $82 million to date at the box office, and was released recently in the home video marketplace. The "What's New Scooby-Doo?," "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo," and "Scooby-Doo Where Are You? "TV series can be found on Cartoon Network, reaching 88 million households. Other classic Scooby-Doo series air on Boomerang, which reaches 12 million households. By the end of 2004, all Scooby-Doo licensed products will have generated close to $1 billion at retail.
"Scooby-Doo is the leading animated kids franchise within Warner Home Video and we anticipate that 'Aloha Scooby-Doo!' will continue the tradition of delivering quality entertainment enjoyed by children and adults," said Christine Martinez, WHV Vice-President, Non-theatrical Franchise Marketing. "This is a must have title for the Scooby collector of all ages."
