Red Herring Selects Language Weaver for Prestigious Red Herring Top 100 Innovators Award; Award Recognizes 100 Companies That Embody Innovation
Business Wire, Dec 8, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO -- Language Weaver, Inc., a software company developing statistical machine translation software (SMTS), today announced that it has been selected as a Top 100 Innovator by Red Herring.
Red Herring's editorial staff evaluated over 1,200 submissions from 900 companies. The editors used a careful analysis of financial data as well as subjective criteria, including quality of management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development.
"Selection for the Innovation 100 puts a company in an elite group. The editors worked hard to identify the companies who will benefit from the important technology trends in the coming year," said Joel Dreyfuss, editor-in-chief of Red Herring.
Language Weaver's SMTS offers a significant departure from traditional rule-based machine translation by producing fluent, natural sounding language translations. By learning automatically from existing translated documents, Language Weaver's technology correlates word groupings from language to language to produce the highest probability output. Especially in cases of domain specific text where there is repetition in text and a limited universe of phrasing, such as technical documentation handbooks, SMTS technology saves customers considerable money and time through automation of the process. It also enables cost effective, real-time translations of previously untranslated text, like Web-based customer and product support information. Its customers include both government and commercial enterprises.
"We're honored to be recognized among such a prestigious group of innovators," said Bryce Benjamin, CEO of Language Weaver. "This award validates our commitment to developing a product that positively impacts international communications, both in government and commercial realms."
About Language Weaver
Language Weaver was founded in 2002 to commercialize a unique approach to automatic language translation using proprietary statistical translation algorithms that resulted from 20 person-years of invention and development at the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute (USC/ISI). Its resulting product, statistical machine translation software, provides the highest quality output to date from machine translation. The company has 15 patents pending on its SMTS technology. Bidirectional language pairs available include: Arabic/English, Chinese/English, French/English, and Spanish/English; unidirectional languages include Somali to English and Hindi to English, with others coming soon. Language Weaver's software is available as licensed software in client server and stand-alone versions. Website: www.languageweaver.com.
