WILMINGTON, Mass. & SALFORDS, Surrey, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2004--Agfa Monotype Corp. has introduced 20 exclusive fonts and font volumes on Fonts.com. Released through the company's Monotype(R) foundry, the products are from the new Laurentian(TM), Fairbank(TM) and Mosquito Formal(TM) families and can be viewed and purchased from www.fonts.com/new.

"Fonts.com is well known for its selection and quality of typeface designs," said Allan Haley, director of words and letters at Agfa Monotype. "These exclusive Monotype fonts exemplify these traits."

The Laurentian text family was originally created for Maclean's, a Canadian magazine. Designer Rod McDonald set out to design a face that was lively yet would never interfere with other elements on a page, or the content it expressed. The Laurentian family includes regular, semibold and bold weights, with italics for regular and semibold. A set of Laurentian small caps is also available.

Fairbank is a digital revival of the Alfred Fairbank design first released as a metal font in the early 1930s. Agfa Monotype's Robin Nicholas and Carl Cossgrove revitalized the design from the original Fairbank drawings. Nicholas and Cossgrove also created Fairbank Chancery, a calligraphic rendition of the face, as well as several typographic extras, including a suite of ornate caps, elegant ligatures and lowercase swash characters. Fairbank can be used for greeting cards, invitations and a variety of seasonal projects.

Mosquito Formal is a sophisticated version of the jaunty Mosquito(TM) typeface, an exclusive Monotype design, released in 2002. Eric De Berranger retained the stressed character strokes, relatively large x-height and open counters of his original design. He replaced the cursive strokes and lively terminals with traditional features. Mosquito Formal is available in three weights with complementary italic designs in addition to a suite of small caps and old style figures.

The new fonts are offered in both PostScript(R) and TrueType(R) formats for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) platforms and in PostScript for Macintosh(R) platforms. Individual fonts are $42. Volume pricing is $151.20 for all Laurentian fonts, $84 for the Fairbank set and $340.20 for the Mosquito Formal collection. In addition to purchasing from www.fonts.com, customers may order fonts and extended licensing packages by calling Agfa Monotype at 1 800 424 8973, prompt three from the U.S. and Canada, or 0800 371242, prompt three from the U.K. Customers from other countries may call 44 17 3776 5959.
