DACs Help Reduce Printed Circuit Board Space Requirements for
Digital Television, Set-Top Boxes and Automotive
Entertainment Systems
Extending its industry-leading portfolio of analog semiconductor products, Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) has introduced a new family of digital-to-analog converters (DACs) targeted for value-line entertainment systems in DVD-based markets and other entertainment markets, such as digital television, set-top boxes and automotive entertainment systems.
The new family of 10-pin DACs, the CS4344, CS4345, CS4346 and CS4348, give OEMs the industry's smallest, most cost-effective 192 kHz stereo DAC while still retaining superior sound quality. This product introduction marks the 24th new analog product from Cirrus within the past 20 months.
"The CS434x family now gives Cirrus Logic the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of stereo DACs for entertainment systems, including the smallest, most cost-effective 96 kHz and 192 kHz DACs," said Jason Rhode, director of Analog Products Marketing, Cirrus Logic. "It complements and is compatible with our popular CS4334 family of DACs, giving designers a simple upgrade path."
Helping reduce printed circuit board space requirements, the chips are offered in a low profile 10-pin package that is 50 percent smaller than Cirrus' current eight-pin DAC family but without sacrifice to audio performance. Based on an advanced multi-bit delta-sigma architecture, the CS434x family delivers -95 dB THD N and dynamic range of 105 dB. The CS434x DACs operate from a single 3.3V or 5V power supply and include value-added features such as patented automatic sample-rate detection, on-chip digital de-emphasis and Cirrus Logic's Popguard(R) technology to eliminate power cycling clicks and pops, which further reduces external components required. The CS4344, CS4345, CS4346, and CS4348 differ only in the serial audio interface format they support and are the ideal solutions for next-generation audio products that require a small, low-cost DAC with premium analog performance and sound quality.
Pricing and Availability
Each member of the CS434x family is available in a 10-pin, lead-free TSSOP package and is currently sampling to customers. In quantities of 10,000, each DAC is priced at $1.20.
