KDDI and Macromedia Announce Strategic Licensing Agreement for Flash Lite; KDDI to Deploy Flash Lite 1.1 in New Handsets for ''au'' Service

TOKYO & SAN FRANCISCO -- KDDI and Macromedia (Nasdaq:MACR) today announced a strategic licensing agreement that will bring Macromedia(R) Flash Lite(TM) 1.1 to KDDI handset manufacturers.

Flash Lite will power several applications in KDDI's "au" Service, including the browser-based EZ Portal and portions of the phone's user interface. KDDI will actively use several new features introduced in Flash Lite 1.1 including network connectivity, improved audio support, and APIs to integrate Flash content with phone functionality. Flash Lite 1.1 is an updated profile of Flash Player designed specifically for mobile phones. This profile targets mass-market phones that do not have sufficient processing power and memory to support the entire feature set available in desktop versions of Flash Player. Developers today also have access to the Flash Lite content development kit (CDK), available in Japanese and English, which covers tips, techniques, and sample code for developing Macromedia Flash content for mobile phones using Macromedia Flash MX Professional 2004.
