GENERAL BANDWIDTH G6 MEDIA GATEWAY ACHIEVES PACKETCABLE QUALIFICATION; GENERAL BANDWIDTH SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES CABLELABS CERTIFICATION WAVE 29

General Bandwidth, a leading Voice over IP equipment manufacturer enabling rapid deployment and new service revenue generation over broadband networks, announced today that its G6 VoIP Media Gateway received qualification from CableLabs(R) as compliant to the PacketCable 1.0 specifications. CableLabs awarded the qualification to General Bandwidth in Certification Wave 29 based on the G6 platform's compliance with the PacketCable 1.0 specifications for media gateways including interoperability with other PacketCable-certified elements. Designed as a carrier class, standards-based media gateway, the G6 platform is deployed by some of the largest North American service providers as a circuit-to-packet interface between the PSTN and packet voice networks. The G6 platform is currently being trialed and deployed by leading cable operators for cable telephony roll-outs in 2004 and 2005.

"We greatly appreciate the support of companies like General Bandwidth for the PacketCable initiative," said Ed Miller, Vice President of Advanced Network Systems which manages the PacketCable initiative. "Our industry would not be as well positioned today if not for the supplier community contributing to this interoperability effort," Miller added.

"With a focus on designing and deploying standards-based packet voice gateways since 1999, General Bandwidth has been a strong advocate for interoperability," said Brendon Mills, President and CEO, General Bandwidth. "We are dedicated to supporting the PacketCable project within CableLabs and are pleased to have achieved full qualification as a PacketCable 1.0 media gateway."
