Xybernaut and Piper Group Showcase Wearable Aviation Solution at Farnborough International Airshow
Business Wire, July 12, 2004
FARNBOROUGH, ENGLAND -- Xybernaut and Piper Group Combine Aviation Maintenance Applications and Wearable Computers for Enhanced Knowledge Management and Field Force Automation
Piper Group Plc, one of Europe's leading aerospace and defence Technical Information Services companies and Xybernaut today announced that both Companies' technologies will be on display at the 2004 Farnborough International Exhibit and Flying Display.
The Farnborough Air Show, one of the longest-running and largest Air Shows in the world, is held every two years as a showcase of aviation technologies together with flying displays from many of the aviation industry's leading companies, performance teams and individual aviators.
Xybernaut and the Piper Group have been working together for several years to combine Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) viewing technologies with mobile/wearable computers. Piper Group's expertise in the technical information field has led to the design and development of a wide range of editing, publishing and viewing applications -- many tailored specifically for the needs of the aviation and aerospace industries. In fact, Piper Group has played a central development role in trilogiView - a next-generation IETPs viewer - born out of the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense (MoD) tri-Service logistics requirements.
"A key element of the Piper Group-Xybernaut relationship has been refining the trilogiView ITD viewer capabilities for applicability on mobile/wearable computing devices such as Xybernaut Mobile Assistant (MA V) and Atigo product families," stated Edward G. Newman, chairman and CEO of Xybernaut. "The combination of these two technologies presents an extremely flexible computing platform for aviation decision makers and field technicians alike."
trilogiView will be presented jointly by Xybernaut and the Piper Group at the Farnborough 2004 International Airshow from July 19 - 25.
"trilogiView is a model application for Xybernaut technology, just as Xybernaut wearables are the perfect platform for trilogiView," stated Paul Burke, head of Business Solutions, Piper Group Plc. "The combination of fast, intuitive data accessibility and a completely mobile, hands-free platform is effectively a revolution in on-site aircraft and defence equipment maintenance."
"The obvious benefits to efficiency and productivity for support operations, and tangible improvements to the working environment for maintainers are both significant and instantaneous, setting the standard for mobile support solutions worldwide," Burke added.
Farnborough International is organized by the Society of British Aerospace Companies (www.sbac.co.uk), the trade association for the UK aerospace industry. Detailed information related to the Farnborough Air Show can be found on the Internet at www.farnborough.com.
Two of this year's more unique exhibit areas include the Business Aircraft Park and the International Space Pavilion. The Business Aircraft Park, sponsored by the Society of British Aerospace Companies, will focus on solutions and technologies that assist corporate aircraft owners/operators. The International Space Pavilion, also coordinated by the SBAC in partnership with the United Kingdom Industrial Space Committee (UKISC) and the Space Foundation, will focus on methodologies, technologies and solutions tailored to space-related aviation communities.
