San Antonio City Employees Federal Credit Union Taps BioPassword from BioNet Systems to Bolster Network Security

Business Wire, July 13, 2004

SAN ANTONIO -- Citing its desire to further protect network security, including access to member account information, the San Antonio City Employees Federal Credit Union (CECU) announced its decision to add an additional layer of security to its laptop computers through biometrics and, specifically, the user keystroke recognition provided by BioNet Systems and its BioPassword(R) product.

According to CECU representatives, the organization selected BioPassword because it is the market's sole software-only biometric solution designed to integrate seamlessly with the organization's operating system -- allowing network administrators to quickly and easily authenticate users without installing and configuring additional hardware on each computer. BioPassword affords users access to system resources only after they are authenticated by two-factor identification: the traditional password and the biometric recognition of the unique typing keystrokes of the individual entering that password.

"BioPassword's two-phase security system is seamless to the user, which is very important for us," said Steve Schipull, CECU senior vice president of finance and technology. "BioNet's software-only application keeps costs low and implementation simple, both for our IT department as well as the individual user. Keeping our members' personal data secure isn't just important to us, it's the law -- and BioPassword protects CECU laptops from the unauthorized use of employee passwords and enhances our layered approach to network security."

BioNet officials underscored the benefits CECU stands to gain. "BioPassword is the market's most effective -- and cost-effective way to ensure the security and confidentiality of a company and personal data, making it ideal for today's mobile computing work environments," stated Andrew Tull, EVP of Sales and Marketing for BioNet Systems. "Our strong user authentication solution binds a legitimate user's typing patterns with their password, generating a 'hardened' password that secures against both internal and external attackers while remaining virtually transparent to the end user."
