CIGNA Chooses Verdasys for Enterprise Information Security
Business Wire, July 13, 2004
WALTHAM, Mass. -- Verdasys, Inc., a leading provider of information security solutions for assuring continuous regulatory compliance and information security, and CIGNA, one of the nation's largest health insurers, today announced a multi-year licensing agreement for the enterprise-wide deployment of the Verdasys Digital Guardian Information Security Platform.
"We expect Verdasys will help ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy and security directives, through a comprehensive approach to logging and controlling protected healthcare information at lower cost and risk, for new end state and legacy applications," said Craig Shumard, senior vice president of Information Protection at CIGNA. "The Verdasys solution promises to be an extensible platform that expands to cover a broad range of valuable information security needs at CIGNA."
According to Shumard, CIGNA initially deployed Digital Guardian to control and protect outsourced program development. The new agreement encompasses outsourcing activities and now includes functionality for HIPAA compliant application remediation and the general protection of sensitive corporate information.
"Digital Guardian's patent pending desktop implementation provides information auditing and control advantages that cannot be matched by "on-the-wire" or server-based implementations. Verdasys is unique in taking this approach and when combined with their open and extensible platform architecture, we expect to see further uptake of this company's product line going forward," said Maria Lewis Kussmaul, Founding Partner and Director of Investment Research at America's Growth Capital located in Boston, MA.
"We are absolutely delighted that the trust and confidence in Verdasys displayed by CIGNA during their initial licensing deal has been further expanded to include their entire enterprise. This further validates the growing demand for comprehensive information security solutions," said Seth Birnbaum, Founder, Director and CEO of Verdasys.
Verdasys delivers information security solutions that address business driven requirements for assuring compliance with a broad range of government regulatory mandates, safeguarding the privacy of client and patient records and preventing misuse of intellectual property. Verdasys offers a compelling set of solutions for a wide array of data containment, global outsourcing and information protection related business problems.
CIGNA Corporation (NYSE: CI) and its subsidiaries constitute one of the largest investor-owned employee benefits organizations in the United States. Its subsidiaries are major providers of employee benefits offered through the workplace, including health care products and services, group life, accident and disability insurance.
