Sony Ericsson K500 Camera Phones to Feature Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow in 3D

Business Wire, July 15, 2004

LONDON & RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and Gameloft(R), a leading international publisher and developer of video games for mobile phones, today announced a partnership that will allow consumers to play current and future Gameloft 2D and 3D games on Sony Ericsson phones. First out is the award-winning Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell(R) Pandora Tomorrow(TM) in 3D, of which a free level will be offered with the new K500 series of phones. The full game will be available from www.SonyEricsson.com/fun and from www.gameloft.com.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow features outstanding 3D graphic quality, which comes alive on the Sony Ericsson K500 thanks to the fast and smooth game play assured by the Java 2.0 and Mascot Capsule(R) Engine Micro3D Edition from HI Corp graphics platform especially created for fast-action, graphics-rich mobile applications. The large 1.9 inch 65K TFT color screen and MultiAction(TM) joystick make it a pleasure to view and play games. The K500 has enough internal memory (12MB) to store up to 170 2D or 45 3D games.

"We're very excited with the arrival of 3D. This feature will bring mobile gaming to a new dimension and Sony Ericsson is an outstanding partner for the launch of the first mobile games in 3D," says Michel Guillemot, President at Gameloft. "The original Java 1.0 version of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell was downloaded more than a million times worldwide and has been a huge success across all major gaming platforms, and we expect as much of its follow-up."

Sony Ericsson and Gameloft have partnered to develop a range of 3D games, including Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow during 2004. Other games developed by Gameloft and soon to be available for download to Sony Ericsson phones in Java 1.0 and 2.0 include Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Rayman(R) 3, Siberian Strike, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six(R) Raven Shield and XIII(TM).

"We are confident that the Java performance of the K500 raises the bar in the industry, and this fantastic opportunity with Gameloft really shows to consumers what mobile gaming can present. Offering a fantastic out-of-the-box experience is key for driving consumer take-up of mobile entertainment services and combined with the rich on-line offering, the K500 is a full-fledged mobile gaming phone," said Rikko Sakaguchi, Senior Vice President at Sony Ericsson.
