Business Wire, July 19, 2004

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Leading Event-driven Solutions Provider Contributes Expertise, Offers Support to Industry for Event-enabling Web Services

KnowNow Inc., a leading provider of publish-subscribe technology for event-driven solutions, today announced that it has become a contributing member of OASIS, a not-for-profit, global consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of e-business standards. As a member of OASIS, KnowNow will contribute its expertise in event-driven architectures and IT infrastructure to the OASIS Web Services Notification (WSN) Technical Committee (TC). The OASIS WSN TC is working to define a set of specifications that standardize the way Web services interact using the Notification pattern.

"Companies are increasingly realizing the benefit of standards-based, event-driven Service Oriented Architectures," said Ronald Schmelzer, senior analyst and founder of ZapThink LLC. "Using an event-driven SOAs, organization can exchange messages and notifications between its Web services systems, providing tremendous benefit in enabling companies to be more responsive and have immediate visibility into changes as they occur."

KnowNow brings publish-subscribe solutions to the Internet, integrating real-time information delivery with familiar productivity applications that benefit users in a wide range of industries. KnowNow's easy-to-implement solutions work with existing back-end corporate systems and end-user applications so they typically deliver a return on investment in days, rather than months or years. By delivering actionable business-critical events to people and systems that need them, as soon as they happen, event-driven systems fundamentally change the way businesses are run. These systems have significant implications for business intelligence, and allow enterprises to convert the event-driven delivery of critical business information into a competitive advantage.

"KnowNow's event-driven architecture adds significant value to the emerging Web Services standards for event-enabling the enterprise, and we're happy to be supporting these worthwhile efforts," said Ron Rasmussen, vice president of Product Development for KnowNow. "As a provider of publish-subscribe solutions that enable event-driven architectures, we're committed to empowering enterprises to reduce latencies in decision-making through immediate access to changes in business critical events."

As the leader in event-driven architectures and a contributing member of OASIS, KnowNow will help develop specifications for enabling Web services to subscribe to other Web services, and receive notification of business critical events as they occur, letting enterprises become truly "event-enabled." KnowNow will continue to track and incorporate all important standards in this area, such as the WS Eventing initiative, which provides a common method for events to be communicated within and between Web services, to reduce critical decision-making latencies within the enterprise.
