Axesat Expands Broadband Service Contract with Intelsat; Reaches New Markets
Business Wire, July 19, 2004
LONDON -- Intelsat today announced that Axesat, a Colombian provider of satellite access services, has renewed and expanded its broadband service contract with Intelsat. The additional capacity is being used to extend Axesat's regional presence to serve existing as well as new customers in areas it previously had not served, such as Central America, Venezuela and Ecuador.
Axesat is utilizing Intelsat's managed broadband service, including space segment on the IS-805 satellite located at 304.5 degrees E in conjunction with a broadband hub located in Bogota, Colombia, to provide the expanded services.
"Intelsat's continued commitment to technological development in this region, as well as its demonstrated support of Axesat's growth initiatives, gives us an edge in the emerging Latin American broadband marketplace," said Mauricio Segovia, President, Axesat S.A. "Intelsat's reliable management of our broadband network has enabled us to spend our time expanding our business into new areas where we had not previously offered services." As a result of its expanded relationship with Intelsat, Axesat has become the largest provider of satellite-based broadband Internet access solutions in Colombia.
Intelsat's broadband offering gives service providers the ability to provide broadband Internet access on a proven platform to small and medium sized businesses and small or home offices. It can support last-mile Internet access, e-commerce, FTP, distance learning, Extranet and Intranet as well as virtual private networks. Intelsat's managed service broadband package bundles space segment, teleport uplink services, network management and Internet backbone connectivity for customers.
Ramu Potarazu, COO, Intelsat Ltd., stated, "Intelsat began offering managed services in an effort to help our customers grow their businesses by reducing the amount of time they committed to managing their network infrastructures. Witnessing Axesat's successful expansion into new markets first-hand is proof to us that our managed service offerings can significantly benefit our customers in the exact way we had intended."
