County Geriatric Facility Saves More Than $700,000 Annually; Cinergy Solutions, Phoenix Mechanical Joint Effort Finds Customized Project Success

Business Wire, July 19, 2004

ROYERSFORD, Pa. -- The Montgomery County Geriatric & Rehabilitation Center is undergoing extensive energy efficiency improvements, as part of a comprehensive Facility Renewal Program developed by Cinergy Solutions, an energy service company specializing in facilities and infrastructures solutions and Phoenix Mechanical, Inc., a full service mechanical contractor. The facility improvements are funded by more than $700,000 in annual energy and operating costs savings.

The Center, which combines rehabilitative therapy with palliative treatment for more than 590 patients, is in need of new infrastructure elements due to the age of the facility. Among the improvements are lighting retrofits, new chillers, cooling tower and pumps, new air handling units, new steam boiler plant and a direct digital control system.

"These new retrofits will be a great benefit for the Center and our patients," explained Robert Graf, Chief Operating Officer for Montgomery County Geriatric & Rehabilitation Center. "Cinergy Solutions and Phoenix's innovative payment option allows these improvements to be made essentially at no cost to us."

The Facility Renewal Program is unique in that it addresses both the energy efficiency of the facilities and the gas and electric utilities purchased by the Geriatric Center. This Balanced Approach to energy management allows Cinergy Solutions and Phoenix Mechanical's customers to pay less and use less energy, thus saving more. This unique approach eliminates volatility associated with utility rates while providing energy efficient facility upgrades that pay for themselves.

Work on the project commenced in January and is slated for completion in December.

"This customized payment option creates a beneficial situation for Montgomery County Geriatric & Rehabilitation Center and for Cinergy Solutions," said Cinergy Solutions' Vice President, Rod Husk. "This energy project seeks to strengthen the Center's financial future by providing long-term, quantifiable savings while upgrading and providing enhanced reliability and comfort in the facility. Cinergy Solutions is proud of this partnership."
