Versata Announces General Availability of Versata Logic Suite on JBoss Application Server

Business Wire, July 23, 2004

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Release Brings Proven Service-Oriented Application Development, with Automated Workflow and Business Process Creation, to Leading Open Source J2EE Application Server

Versata, Inc. (Nasdaq:VATA), a leading provider of software and services that automate the development and management of data-intensive business applications, today announced the full availability of the Versata(R)

Logic Suite on the JBoss application server, 3.2 Edition. Shipping since Friday, July 16th, the release brings Versata's declarative, model-driven approach for the creation and maintenance of applications, business processes and master data management to the leading open source J2EE application server.

With Versata, developers replace tedious Java programming with a declarative, model-based approach to application development based on business rules and data models. This automated approach dramatically reduces development time and eliminates the need for expensive and error-prone Java programming of service components.

"Our partners are critical to the ongoing success of the Professional Open Source model, which focuses on making open source a safe choice for the enterprise," said Tom Leonard, vice president of channels, JBoss, Inc. "Versata provides a proven enterprise-class platform for application, workflow and master data management development for the growing JBoss user community."

Versata's declarative approach reduces life-cycle costs associated with application changes by allowing change to the underlying business rules. With full support for the leading application servers, including IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic and JBoss, Versata developers can now insulate themselves from constantly evolving Java and application server technology.

"The full availability of the Versata Logic Server on these leading platforms provides application development independence for our customers and partners," said Brett Adam, Versata's chief technology officer and vice president. "Because developers can create applications and chose where to deploy them, their investment in valuable business applications will be preserved should corporate or technology standards change."

The Versata Logic Suite includes a development studio for business process and transaction logic, and a server for runtime deployment. The combination of both process and transaction logic will allow developers to fully utilize services-oriented architectures by linking workflow with services.
