Interim HealthCare Chooses LogLogic Solution to Analyze, Manage and Secure Network Log Data
Business Wire, July 26, 2004
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Appliances Provide Faster Troubleshooting and Improved Corporate Compliance
LogLogic, makers of the world's only fast, simple, end-to-end log data analysis and retention solutions, today announced that Interim HealthCare, the nation's largest provider of health care and staffing, has deployed its end-to-end log lifecycle management solution for faster network troubleshooting and better corporate compliance. By deploying LogLogic LX appliances, Interim HealthCare has made log data from its firewalls and other data center equipment immediately useful for troubleshooting and responses to network performance and security problems, while being able to better respond to inquiries related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
"We were faced with the multiple problems of capturing torrents of log data from firewalls and other equipment, being able to quickly access that data for troubleshooting and policy validation, while cost-effectively storing and securing log data in the context of new HIPAA privacy regulation," said Satish Movva, CIO of Interim Healthcare. "The LogLogic end-to-end infrastructure can solve all of these problems."
The LogLogic appliances fit seamlessly into Interim Healthcare's existing network infrastructure, which is built around NetScreen(TM) firewalls. In addition, the devices offer long-term investment protection by working transparently with any device that generates syslog data and by offering log data backup and archival through Interim's network attached storage environment. With a simple drop-in-installation, LogLogic's appliances auto-discover connected devices and begin collecting and retaining log data as soon as the administrator enables the connected devices. The LX analysis appliances also feature maintenance-free databases that eliminate the costs of database administration.
"Ease of use is huge for us, because my group is responsible for all network and security management across the organization," said Movva. "Even if incidents are rare thanks to our prevention efforts, we count on the LogLogic appliance to provide quick and easy information that speeds up our response to anything that slips by our defenses."
The LX appliance provides real-time analysis and general syslog reports, and can consolidate log reports from multiple devices, simplifying the task of reviewing and comparing the data from different sources. Administrators can also run device-specific reports to zero in on the activity of a particular device. In addition, the LX appliance can create custom management reports in a format that is easy to review and use.
The LX appliances retain up to ninety days of log data, whereas the complimentary ST family of appliances enable many years of log data archives.
"Some of the most significant challenges of web applications and network management are problem identification, isolation and repair, especially across a complex data center infrastructure. Management mechanisms that support a single approach to data gathering, reporting and alerting across infrastructure layers are worth their weight in gold," said John Morency, principal analyst at Transitional Data Services. "By leveraging syslog in order to support shared triage across several disparate disciplines, LogLogic significantly reduces data center management complexity. These products eliminate a lot of headaches by making syslog data access, management, archival and retrieval a very rapid, simple and painless process."
"Data center equipment logs are an incredibly important source of information for rapid network troubleshooting as well as for regulatory compliance and legal protection, but until now, the options for dealing with this information have been slow, unreliable, and expensive," said Chris Brennan, president and CEO of LogLogic. "Our products are the first end-to-end solution for this problem, and our Fortune 1000 customers have been very enthusiastic. Nothing gets an IT manager or CIO's attention like a solution that makes a company significantly more secure and responsive, that installs in ten minutes, and that pays for itself within a couple of months."
