NEC And Imprivata Form Strategic Alliance to Deliver Fingerprint Biometric Enterprise SSO Appliance to Market
Business Wire, July 27, 2004
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- NEC TouchPass - Secure Single Sign-On Delivers Enhanced Security with User Convenience for Medical Facilities
Imprivata, Inc., the enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) appliance company and NEC Solutions America, a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America have joined forces to market and deliver an integrated solution that uses fingerprint identification to enable enterprise single sign-on.
The new solution, NEC TouchPass - Secure Single Sign-On, builds upon NEC's world-class biometrics technology and Imprivata's OneSign ESSO to create a "scan and go" capability that makes application access fast, convenient and highly secure for doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals. The integrated solution eliminates the need for typing user names or remembering complex and often-changing passwords because it instantly matches a finger scan to a central database of authorized users.
NEC TouchPass - Secure Single Sign-On can be deployed rapidly and does not require changes to existing infrastructure. Enterprisewide deployment can be completed within a few days, as compared to similar solutions that require several months.
According to the terms of the agreement, NECSAM will immediately offer a TouchPass-branded version of the OneSign ESSO appliance in the North American health care market. "Our collaboration with Imprivata allows NECSAM to deliver a completely secure, single sign-on application that is not only affordable, but simple to use and deploy," said Lauryn Jones, general manager of the Health Care Solutions Division for NEC Solutions America. "NEC TouchPass - Secure Single Sign-On, delivers the required functionality for a health care environment including shared workstation modules and biometric identification. This allows any user to log in to any application, on any computer, automatically with the touch of a finger."
The integrated biometric-enabled ESSO solution allows multiple users to securely share the same workstation, a critical feature for nurses' stations, radiology labs and other mixed-use health care settings. From an IT perspective, the appliance's Application Profile Generator enables dramatic time savings by automatically learning and securing the user-authentication procedures of virtually any Windows(R)-based, client-server, mainframe or Java(TM) application.
Patrick Morley, Imprivata CEO states, "we're bringing speed, convenience and increased security to a process that has become a real bottleneck in mission-critical settings like health care. Hospitals simply cannot afford trade-offs between security and user productivity."
NEC's biometric identification technology is trusted worldwide by public and private sector organizations to resolve their identity management problems. For over 30 years, NEC has been delivering robust biometric solutions. NEC's patented algorithms have lead to fast and accurate searches against any size of database. These factors, combined with the unrivalled benefit of the industry's lowest failure rates demonstrate that NEC is at the forefront of the biometrics solutions market.
