Tech Data Broadens Point-of-Sale and Data Capture Product Offering
Business Wire, July 28, 2004
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Additions Help IT Resellers Deliver Vertical Market Solutions for Health Care, Law Enforcement and Other 'Mobile' Environments
Tech Data Corporation (Nasdaq:TECD), a leading global provider of IT products, logistics management and other value-added services, has expanded its POS/Data Capture Specialized Business Unit (SBU) with new offerings from leading manufacturers including 3M Touch Systems Inc., Casio Inc., IEE Inc. and WASP Technologies. The new products, ranging from price verification systems and privacy monitors to wireless data communication devices with inventory management software, help Tech Data customers design data capture solutions specifically for vertical market applications.
Resellers targeting the law enforcement sector, for instance, can deploy Casio's IT-3000 data terminal, which features a built-in high-speed printer with magnetic card reader and C-MOS imager. The device helps reduce human error and improve efficiency when issuing tickets, reading parking meters or performing other field-service duties where a receipt or label is required.
In the health care or financial industries, the 3M Privacy Monitor enables a more secure way to view confidential records. The monitor utilizes an integrated privacy filter to limit viewable on-screen information to users directly in front of the display. HIPAA and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act include provisions to protect financial and medical information from unauthorized viewers.
"Our POS/Data Capture SBU is dedicated to offering resellers the products and services that best position them to capitalize on the demand for POS and Data Capture solutions in a wide range of industries," said Karl Werner, director of Tech Data's Advanced Technologies Group. "An array of businesses and institutions are realizing the benefits of applying POS and Data Capture technologies beyond traditional points-of-purchase to efficiently collect and manage information throughout their entire operations."
Werner adds that Casio and the WASP/Symbol mobility bundle offer resellers increased flexibility when creating POS and Data Capture solutions, while ScanVue and the 3M Privacy Monitor enables them to target sales opportunities created by government regulations.
Tech Data's latest additions to its POS/Data Capture SBU line card include:

Both devices are designed for wireless, efficient data collection suitable for an array of applications and markets.
IEE's ScanVue(R)
IEE creates state-of-the-art display technologies including LCD displays, pole displays and interactive kiosks.
