Business Wire, July 8, 2004

SAN FRANCISCO -- American Lawyer Media, Inc. (ALM), the nation's leading legal journalism and information company, publisher of The Recorder(R) and operator of the Cal Law(R) Web site, today announced GC California(TM), a new magazine for chief legal officers and in-house attorneys throughout the state. GC California joins GC Mid-Atlantic(TM), GC New York(TM), GC New England(TM), GC South(TM) and In-House Texas(R), introduced by ALM over the past year.

GC California's first issue, featuring a cover profile of Iris Brest, general counsel of high-profile biotech start-up StemCells Inc., will be distributed in early September and will reach an audience of more than 8,000 selected corporate counsel, top corporate executives and corporate attorneys in California.

The four-color magazine, to be published quarterly, will focus on topics of interest to California's corporate counsel, providing expert coverage of legal and departmental management trends and issues, as well as cases and decisions that impact companies and profiles of leading GCs and corporate legal departments. The premiere issue will include excerpts from a roundtable discussion by in-house counsel on working effectively with outside law firms.

Other topics to be covered on a regular basis include developments in corporate governance; trends in the management and operation of in-house law departments; innovative strategies for effective working relationships with outside law firms and developments in areas of law that are of pivotal importance to in-house lawyers, including labor and employment, intellectual property and real estate.

"GC California will address the full range of issues facing in-house counsel, the legal decision makers in the state's largest corporations, from both legal and business perspectives," said Christopher Braun, publisher of the magazine. "In addition, the magazine provides marketers with a direct channel to the group directly responsible for selecting suppliers and outsourcing work to law firms, in one of the most active and lucrative legal markets in the nation."

GC California will be distributed to an initial controlled circulation group with bonus first-issue distribution to American Lawyer Media's West Coast General Counsel Conference. The magazine is also available to private attorneys by subscription. For subscriptions, or to be added to the complimentary distribution list for corporate counsel, please call the circulation department at (800) 587-9288.
