JVC Announces Availability of HD Radio Equipped CD Receiver; New JVC Car Audio CD Receiver Will Receive New Digital AM & FM Broadcasts

Business Wire, July 9, 2004

WAYNE, N.J. -- JVC today announced it will soon ship its first CD receiver with a built-in HD Radio(TM) tuner, the KD-SHX900, featuring HD Radio digital AM & FM broadcast technology HD Radio provides seamless digital broadcasts, with AM stations sounding more like FM broadcasts and FM stations offering sonics on a par with compact discs. At present, there are more than 300 licensed HD Radio stations in the U.S., and that number is expected to grow substantially in the coming year.

"HD Radio is one of the most significant advances in over-the-air AM and FM broadcasts since the introduction of FM stereo," said Aaron Novak, National Product Planning Supervisor, Mobile Electronics Division, JVC Company of America. "We fully expect HD Radio to become an essential element in high output receivers. JVC is proud to be one of the first companies to bring this important new technology to a demanding consumer audience."

With HD Radio, AM radio is as clear and full-bodied as current FM stereo broadcasts, opening up new opportunities for innovative programming and formats. The FM band sounds more like 16-bit compact discs.

In addition to improved sonics on the AM and FM bands, HD Radio is almost entirely static-free, rendering hiss, pops, and signal fades a thing of the past. Similar to MP3 files, HD Radio displays artist and song title information conveyed through ID3 tags. Looking to the future, HD Radio opens the door to on-demand audio, as well wireless text transmissions, such as news bulletins and promotional announcements.

HD Radio is just part of what makes JVC's KD-SHX900 a standout model. Additional high-end features include a DiAS (Digital Integrated Alignment System) tuner, featuring a unified chip rather than the more common hard-wired analog tuner. With a DiAS tuner, reception is improved, with only a bare minimum of interference and signal fades. Also improving performance is the receiver's CC Converter, which relies on exclusive algorithms to restore lost signals based on the recorded digital signals of audible frequencies.

The KD-SHX900 comes equipped with a wide breadth of lifestyle features, including JVC's proprietary PiCT technology, which allows users to upload favorite graphics or short video clips to the unit for viewing on its especially vibrant 256-color OEL display.

Maximum power output is 200 watts (50 watts x 4). Additional benefits include an advanced multi-bit DAC, DSP with seven ambience modes, BBE high definition sound, and full MP3/WMA/CD/CD-R/CD-RW compatibility. Also, the KD-SHX900 is compatible with Sirius Satellite Receivers.

JVC's KD-SHX900 is will be available later this month at a nationally advertised value of $849.95.
