Integrated Solution to Help Combat Spam, Viruses and Inappropriate
Web Surfing, and Lower Costs
CyberGuard Corporation (NASDAQ: CGFW), the technology leader in network security, and Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), the leader in advanced networked storage solutions for today's data-intensive enterprise, announced today that the Kentucky Governor's Office for Technology has selected the companies' joint solution to provide Internet filtering and security for more than 40,000 employees in the state's executive branch agencies. The joint system, which offers CyberGuard's Webwasher integrated Content Security Management (CSM) suite of content security solutions with the NetApp(R) NetCache(R) Web delivery and security appliances, is expected to go live in Kentucky within 90 days.
A key factor in the decision was the integration of spam filtering, anti-virus protection, URL and content blocking, and other network protection applications with scalable Web delivery and security appliances under a single management interface for easier administration, better network performance and lower total cost of ownership.
"Organizations today are finding it necessary to deploy as many as a dozen software packages to deal with Internet-related network threats," said Gary Taggart, senior vice president of sales and general manager of CyberGuard's Webwasher division. "Managing all of these applications is expensive and inefficient. Government has an obligation to protect taxpayers against productivity losses and legal liabilities caused by spam, viruses, inappropriate Web surfing, and other hazards of using the Internet. Technology officials in the Kentucky Governor's office recognized that an integrated architecture addresses these issues efficiently and cost-effectively. Adopting the joint solution saves time and money by eliminating the need to deploy and manage multiple stand-alone solutions, providing a better defense against today's Internet security threats and minimizing the strain on IT resources."
"Government and enterprise customers rely on the NetApp appliance-based approach for Internet access and security to reduce the cost and improve the security of their employee Internet usage," said David Kresse, senior director and general manager of the Content Delivery Business Unit at Network Appliance. "The combination of the NetApp NetCache appliances and the Webwasher CSM Suite provides customers with a best-of-breed, cost-effective solution to improve network speed and security. With the joint solution, Internet usage can be easily managed, while non-business-related and security-risk content is filtered out."
