SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 2004

Aurora Networks, a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced optical transport systems for broadband networks, announces the deployment of its crystal clear, all-digital node monitoring system. Built into every Aurora 4000 series node platform, this unique and reliable element management solution is easy to set up and completely eliminates the need for less dependable and costly transponders.

Unlike other element management systems, Aurora node monitoring communicates with the headend over digital, out-of-band channels, freeing up the entire RF return path for revenue-generating network services. Out-of-band digital monitoring is significantly more reliable than using RF transponders that require forward/return frequency planning and contention management.

"With built-in, all-digital node monitoring, Aurora's flexible 4000 series node platform is truly the most advanced optical node available to MSOs," said John Dahlquist, Vice President of Marketing for Aurora Networks. "The elegance of our element management solution makes node monitoring painless for our customers."

To help cable operators increase subscriber satisfaction, the Aurora node monitoring system provides early detection of potential problems, allowing preventative maintenance, and offers quick fault isolation if problems do occur. These proactive capabilities help reduce customer outages, leading to increased subscriber retention.

The Aurora node monitoring system has been successfully integrated with many popular third party network management system solutions, giving the network operation center alarm visibility into the entire Aurora hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) transport network. When used with any Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)-compliant network management system, third party components are unnecessary, and the integration effort is significantly simplified.
