CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 2004
Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, today announced the AXIS 211 Network Camera, which reduces installation costs and increases security by providing 802.3af compatible Power over Ethernet. The AXIS 211 is designed to be used in high performance surveillance applications in markets including education, retail, transportation, healthcare and government.
The AXIS 211 utilizes Power over Ethernet, reducing installation costs and increasing security by consolidating the power source to a central location. The AXIS 211 contains a built-in Web server and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) support for easy connection to a local network or the Internet. Once installed, the AXIS 211 delivers real-time images or live video at up to 30 frames per second in full VGA (640x480) resolution. A progressive scan image sensor and varifocal DC-iris lens enables the camera to deliver superior image quality for both indoor and outdoor applications.
"Cisco is fully behind the 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard and we are delighted to work with Axis to ensure compliance and use of the advanced power management functions with the Cisco Catalyst Switches," said Scott Boynton, Senior Product Line Manager of the Desktop Switching Business Unit. "Network cameras are a fast-growing market for PoE and Axis' leadership and commitment to the standard further accelerates this trend."
Utilizing Axis' ARTPEC-2 video compression chip and advanced signal processing technology, the AXIS 211 delivers an image quality superior to competing products on the market. Motion JPEG video format is used to secure the highest possible image quality and detail resolution. For applications where available bandwidth is restricted and high frame rates are required, support for MPEG-4 will be offered as a free downloadable upgrade, available in Q3 2004.
The AXIS 211 is compatible with Axis' video application programming interface (API), enabling customers to benefit from the industry's largest base of video management applications in markets such as education, retail, transportation, healthcare and government.
The AXIS 211 will be available through Axis' distribution channels in July. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $799. For product images, please visit: www.axis.com/corporate/press/cam_vid_photos.htm.
