Actuate Announces Integration of Nimble's Enterprise Information Integration Technology into Actuate 8

Business Wire, June 21, 2004

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Actuate Sets Pace for Acquisitions in BI Market by Completing Full Product Integration in Less than One Year

Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ:ACTU), the world leader in Enterprise Reporting Applications, today announced that the company has fully integrated Nimble Technology's leading Enterprise Information Integration (EII) capabilities into the Actuate Enterprise Reporting Application Platform. This announcement marks the culmination of eleven months of focused engineering efforts following the acquisition of Nimble Technology in July 2003. With the release of Actuate 8 (see related release: "Actuate Delivers Industry's First Real-time Enterprise Reporting Application Platform With Integrated EII"), Nimble's technology solution is fully integrated into the Actuate Enterprise Reporting Application Platform. As the first Business Intelligence platform to offer EII capabilities, Actuate allows companies to extend the value of their data warehouses, meeting increasing customer demands for enterprise-wide availability of information in real-time.

The successful integration of Nimble's technology within the Actuate platform enables customers to use enterprise information on a real-time basis, thereby meeting the need for decision-making based on the most up-to-date, complete and relevant information. The deployment of Enterprise Reporting Applications with real-time information will provide new avenues for organizations to retain customers, ensure compliance, and streamline financial management processes, ultimately improving overall corporate performance.

According to a Forrester Research report, Actuate's Acquisition of Nimble Technology Reveals the Positive Technical Synergy Between Reporting and EII, August 2003, Actuate's acquisition of Nimble is a positive move that infuses Actuate's platform with a number of enterprise information integration (EII) capabilities. The report notes that greater data integration functionality in the Actuate Enterprise Reporting Application Platform will give users more options concerning report content and how it is compiled from data in highly diverse multiple sources. Hence, Actuate's acquisition of Nimble reveals the positive technical synergy between enterprise reporting and EII. Forrester Principal Analyst Philip Russom adds that companies needing fairly deep data integration functions embedded in a reporting platform should evaluate the Actuate Enterprise Reporting Application Platform and its Information Objects.

"Many of our competitors have acquired companies over the past year in order to enter the Enterprise Reporting market, a market which Actuate pioneered ten years ago," said Pete Cittadini, president and CEO of Actuate. "The integration of Nimble's EII technology enables us to offer another Enterprise Reporting 'first' by enabling companies to extend the data warehouse through on-demand access to information integrated from many disparate sources including ERP systems, data warehouses, legacy systems as well as XML-based data sources. Once again Actuate is leading the market, while our competitors are looking inward and working though technology and organizational issues as a result of their acquisitions."

In addition to the incorporation of Nimble's EII technology, Actuate 8 offers improvements to the e.Spreadsheet product line, extending Actuate's lead in spreadsheet reporting. Actuate was the first company to bring server-based spreadsheet reporting into the business intelligence market in 2002 as a result of its acquisition of Tidestone Technologies the previous year, and has continued enhancing spreadsheet reporting capabilities since that initial integration.

"Actuate 8 represents both the initial integration of one technology platform as well as the continued advancement of an earlier technology integration," commented Mark Coggins, vice-president of Engineering at Actuate. "Our customers will see continued innovation and building on the initial integration of Nimble, just as we've continuously built on the initial integration of spreadsheet reporting capabilities that we completed two years ago."
