NEC Unveils New Integrated Transport Approach at SUPERCOMM 2004
Business Wire, June 21, 2004
HERNDON, Va. -- NEC America, Inc. (NEC), a leading provider of carrier-class communications products for optical networks, will announce a new family of optical networking products aimed at providing a more efficient and reliable optical network infrastructure at SUPERCOMM(R) 2004, June 20 - 24, McCormick Place in Chicago, at booth # 12751.
NEC will be showcasing its soon-to-be released Integrated Transport Node (ITN), a control plane-driven family of products, which create an optical switch with versatile service interface support. This next-generation vision for optical networking:
--Re-defines traditional carrier network boundaries
--Provides a universal optical switching core, aggregation, and distribution feature set
--Offers pluggable service interfaces on the edge.
The ITN solution provides carriers a distributed model, driving functionality and performance incrementally across the network. Benefits to the carriers include the creation of a new revenue stream bringing new services quickly to market via speedy service provisioning and deployment. This technology will be displayed at the NEC booth # 12751.
"We believe that our ITN product view firmly places us in a position to address the traditional carriers intent to redefine the network boundaries," said Rocky Kler, assistant general manager, Optical Network Systems Division (ONSD), NEC America, Inc.
NEC products will also play an integral role in the Optical Internetworking Forum's (OIF) World Interoperability Demo, the industry's first multi-carrier, multi-vendor, interoperability demonstration. Live, dynamic network topologies will be featured as service capabilities are initiated at the carrier labs across international network connections.
"NEC's overall SUPERCOMM presence, including participation at the OIF demo, clearly indicates NEC's commitment to intelligent optical networking," added Dr. Milorad Cvijetic, chief technology strategist, ONSD, NEC America, Inc.
