New HP OpenView Software Streamlines Identity Management, IT Security
Business Wire, June 23, 2004
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- University of Colorado at Boulder Chooses HP OpenView Software to Enhance Network Security, Speed Deployment of Identity Management
HP (NYSE:HPQ) (Nasdaq:HPQ) today introduced new software that streamlines the process of managing user identities, access privileges and security across multiple applications and systems. The identity-provisioning offering, called HP OpenView Select Identity, will be integrated with HP OpenView Select Access to form a complete identity management solution that automates access control and enables increased security for enterprises.
Research firm IDC expects the identity management market to reach nearly $4 billion by 2007, up from approximately $600 million in 2002. The effective management of identity, access and accountability on multiple applications and connect points is not only an operations and security necessity, it also provides a distinct business advantage by enabling enterprises to more efficiently and reliably deliver products and services.
HP's identity management solution puts control in the hands of the business user with secure, scalable capabilities that provide ease of use, expedited deployment and the ability to handle change.
HP OpenView Select Identity, built upon technology that was part of HP's acquisition of TruLogica in March, automates a full range of identity and access control tasks. By offering the flexibility needed to meet ever-changing organizational and regulatory requirements, the software allows IT administrators and information security professionals to instantly update end-users' permission to use IT resources based on preset business policies and processes.
"Security management used to be about keeping people out. Today, it's about letting the right people in, and having a strong, adaptive system in place to manage who can go where once they're inside," said Tony Redmond, vice president and chief technology officer, HP Services. "HP OpenView Select Identity adds an increased level of automation to HP's identity management offering and gives our customers a way to reduce the time and resources spent on security management, while maintaining the integrity of the network."
With the addition of HP OpenView Select Identity, HP OpenView Select Access supports the entire lifecycle management of identities. The combined technology streamlines the management of secure user access to network and enterprise resources, helping customers reduce overall IT costs.
University of Colorado at Boulder chooses HP OpenView Select Access
HP also announced that the University of Colorado at Boulder has selected HP OpenView Select Access to consolidate all of its online services for campus users into a single management framework in order to increase management flexibility and security across the university's robust network. The software will allow the university's multitude of academic and administrative departments to use pre-determined administration rights to change policies and access to their own group networks.
"With 30,000 students and 200 different departments within our network, it is essential that we have an identity management system that offers flexible management capabilities and creates a secure computing environment," said Jon Giltner, director, IT Analysis, Architecture and Security, University of Colorado at Boulder. "HP OpenView Select Access is expected to increase productivity and security of our systems by allowing students, faculty and staff secure access to the information they need, when they need it. Our IT administration expects enhanced control of identity management through HP's offering, and we look forward to the future benefits provided by a complete HP identity management solution."
The University of Colorado chose HP OpenView Select Access based on its ability to integrate seamlessly into the campus' existing identity management framework. HP OpenView Select Access was incorporated into the university's existing directory environment without requiring a change in identity management schemas, which allows departmental IT resources to be spent on other more critical tasks.
In addition to its strong management capabilities, HP OpenView Select Access provides an added layer of protection to the University of Colorado's network. Privacy and security are top priorities for the university; Select Access gives faculty and students the ability to restrict access to Web sites, protecting private data such as student grades, faculty information or sensitive research data. In addition, the software offers system administrators a convenient and secure method of delegating who has access to particular data.
