World-Famous ``Wedding Dress Guy'' Turns to bidadoo auctions to Sell Piece of Internet History
Business Wire, June 25, 2004
BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Larry Star Contracts With Auction Services Company For Professional Management of Second Sale to Benefit Chosen Nonprofit
bidadoo auctions, a full-service provider of professional auction services and a Platinum PowerSeller, today announced from eBay Live that Larry Star, better known as the "Wedding Dress Guy," has contracted with bidadoo auctions to resell the famous Wedding Dress with 25 percent of the proceeds to benefit the final buyer's charity of choice. In April, the Wedding Dress became the most famous dress in history, with more than 17 million viewers worldwide logging on to see Larry Star wearing the dress in his self-portraits as he tried to sell his ex-wife's wedding gown.
"Larry really wanted to give something back to the community for all its support," says John Hawk, COO and co-founder of bidadoo auctions. "He came to bidadoo because we are eBay experts and Larry liked our large focus on nonprofit fund-raising."
Star became an overnight worldwide celebrity and the Wedding Dress a piece of Internet history as he modeled the gown and wrote humorous commentary as part of a five-day eBay auction listing. He has appeared on more than 20 television and radio shows and in countless news articles, including NBC's Today Show, MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann, CNBC, and USA Today, showing the power of the world's largest online marketplace with more than 105 million registered users.
"These guys know what they're doing with online auctions, and their commitment to nonprofits is something I really like," Star explains from New Orleans. "Luckily, I was able to keep the dress. It feels great that I have a chance to give something back to the community in a second auction. And hey, I'll even have my Seattle band, the Buzzcuts, play at the wedding or other function for the winning bidder."
The Wedding Dress auction can be found at www.bidadoo.com.
