Micromuse's Netcool Solutions Support Growth of Multiservice Edge Market; Netcool Solutions Help Service Providers Manage Convergence of Network Devices and Services on MSE Platform

Business Wire, June 29, 2004

SAN FRANCISCO -- Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of ultra-scalable, realtime business and service assurance software, today announced pre-integrated support for Multiservice Edge platforms via its Netcool(R) family of products. Micromuse recognizes the growing Multiservice Edge (MSE) market by offering established and best-in-class OSS management solutions for today's large, carrier-grade, multiservice networks.

Netcool solutions provide organizations with a comprehensive, realtime and actionable view of their business and IT operations, including the MSE platform, its core/subscriber interfaces and the IP/MPLS services it supports. This information allows service providers to smoothly migrate to MSE devices and helps minimize the risk of convergence implementations. Netcool solutions already support the Nortel Network Multiservice Provider Edge (MPE) 9000 series platform that was announced last month at Nortel Networks annual global conference for service provider customers.

"The broad spectrum of network equipment manufacturers and technologies that interoperate with Micromuse's Netcool suite is core to helping our Service Provider customers manage their converging multiple communications networks over IP/MLPS," said Craig Farrell, Micromuse's CTO. "Micromuse will continue partnering with industry leaders, like Nortel, to ensure that our customers can manage their MSE platforms more efficiently and cost effectively."

The Netcool suite ensures customers' ability to deliver an optimal service experience, manage operations efficiently, increase return on investment, and achieve process efficiencies across the OSS infrastructure featuring MSE platforms.

Micromuse will support MSE platforms by monitoring vendor-specific and industry-standard MIBs, including RFC 2547, and provides pre-packaged management support to MPLS, VoiP, IP VPN, ATM, Frame Relay, Ethernet, DSL and Wi-Fi devices and services.
