SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2004

New Low Voltage, Low On Resistance Analog Switch Provides Two Switches in One Chip Scale-Sized

Package

Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE:FCS), the fastest-growing supplier of analog switch solutions(1), announces the immediate availability of its new dual Single Pole, Double Throw (SPDT) FSA2257. The device's low distortion and exceptional ESD protection, combined with a robust ultra-compact leadless MicroPak(TM) package, optimize design flexibility in response to the continuing miniaturization trend in portable devices. This low On resistance (RON) analog switch supports strong growth in cell phones, digital still cameras, PDAs, medical electronics, industrial instrumentation and other portable products. Fairchild's FSA2257 provides bi-directional operation, allowing configuration either as a multiplexer or demultiplexer by select pins.

Key performance specifications of the FSA2257 normally closed (NC) switch include:

-- Ultra low On resistance (RON) of 0.95 ohm, typical, reduces

power consumption;

-- Low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of 0.002% minimizes

distortion placed on the signal as it passes through the

switch;

-- Broad 1.65-5.5 V operating voltage range;

-- 8.0 KV ESD performance (Human Body Model); and

-- Low leakage current (2 nA) and low charge injection (20 pC,

max) minimize offset error in signal sample/hold applications.

"The dual SPDT configuration of this device allows ultra-portable designers flexibility in routing the audio signals, such as speaker sharing or hands-free function implementation," said Jerry Johnston, Fairchild product manager for analog switches. "The FSA2257 broadens Fairchild's portfolio of products targeting portable applications, including audio amplifiers, LED drivers, LEDs for backlighting, supervisory products and a variety of DC/DC conversion products."

Fairchild's FSA2257 comes in ten-terminal leadless MicroPak (L10X suffix) packaging on 5000-piece tape-and-reels compatible with standard high-speed manufacturing equipment.

This lead-free (Pb-free) product meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and is compliant with European Union requirements that will take effect in 2005.
