FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 2004

Xybernaut(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:XYBR) today announced the Company has been granted a patent in Canada for a mobile personal communication device that combines the functionality of a cell phone, wearable computer and pager.

The Canadian patent, similar to the recently announced Israeli patent, covers a device called a Personal Communicator which consists of a core computer, a display and a communications module. When attached, these modules become the Personal Communicator. When detached, they can be used in other systems. Each module has connectors that allow them to be coupled or detached.

In recent years, Xybernaut has strengthened its intellectual property leadership in areas related to mobile, wearable and hands-free computing. The Company's patents cover a wide variety of computing applications that allow industrial workers, military personnel, homeland security personnel or mobile technicians to transfer information or communicate with free hands and eyes-on the task at hand.

Xybernaut chairman and CEO, Edward G. Newman, noted that the Company's intellectual property is one of its primary assets. "Our intellectual property and licensing agreements have allowed us to become the leader in mobile, wearable computing not only in this country, but in China, Japan, Europe, Israel and Canada," he said.

International companies have already begun to develop mobile, wearable solutions based on the Company's IP, Newman added. Other companies typically develop technologies and solutions based on Xybernaut IP by working directly with the Company or through strategic relationships and licensing agreements with equipment manufacturers, resellers and integrators.

The Canadian Personal Communicator IP has issued as Canada Patent No. 2299572. Similar patent applications have been allowed by the U.S. Patent Office and patent offices in other countries.
