Award Recognizes the Importance of Engim's Multi-Service, Multi-Channel WLAN Solutions; Engim's Unique Ability to End Wi-Fi's Capacity and Performance Inconsistencies
Engim, Inc., developers of silicon technology that dramatically expands the manageability, security and capacity of wireless LAN infrastructure, today announced it has been named by the Tolly Group as one of the first recipients of its "First and Foremost" award. Engim is being recognized for the unique abilities of its multi-channel WLAN silicon to let Wi-Fi AP suppliers achieve sustainable data rates as much as 50 times higher than today's single-channel solutions, and to eliminate the unpredictable performance that regularly occurs in wireless enterprises, where mixed client/mixed data rate conditions can sharply drop the network's performance to unacceptably low levels.
Engim CEO Nick Finamore commented: "We are delighted to be recognized by the Tolly Group for having the 'First' Multi-Channel 802.11b/g Access Point. We are also pleased that our reference design has been recognized as the 'Foremost' High Performance Single Physical 802.11b/g Access Point. The Tolly Group has a long history of rigorous, comprehensive testing of network equipment, and is uniquely qualified to assess advanced wireless technology."
Engim has been awarded the "First and Foremost" designation for its EN-3000 multi-channel wireless LAN chipset, with which network equipment vendors can simultaneously support both existing data-only services such as email and file-sharing, performance-sensitive services such as VoWLAN and security functions such as intrusion detection and rogue AP identification. In addition to delivering substantial increases in raw WLAN capacity, Engim-based solutions intelligently partition client traffic to eliminate the performance bottlenecks that regularly occur in WLAN networks with a mix of 802.11b and 802.11g clients and varying distance from client to AP. As IT managers deploy new services onto their WLAN system, an Engim-based solution enables the full range of user services to be successfully served by the same WLAN AP system.
The First & Foremost designation is awarded to products that are the "first" to demonstrate specific performance or functionality in The Tolly Group's labs. Products also may earn a "Foremost" designation by demonstrating record performance or improved functionality that exceeds other products previously tested and certified by The Tolly Group. The First & Foremost certification program shows network managers which products are earning record accomplishments. Such info helps IT buyers to make critical decisions regarding equipment purchases, migration strategies and implementation of emerging technology. For equipment makers, First & Foremost certification is a strategic means to assure buyers that the designated technology stands in a class by itself.
Kevin Tolly, President & CEO of The Tolly Group, noted: "Engim is working with leading vendors to eliminate the barriers to massive-scale enterprise Wi-Fi migration. Considering the importance of consistent performance to emerging applications such as Voice over Wireless IP, smart IT managers are likely to view Engim-enabled multi-channel Wi-Fi as a 'check-off' item for evolving and expanding their networks."
