A new version of the popular Virtex(TM)-II Pro Development Kit from Avnet Cilicon is now available with the Xilinx(R) 2VP30 FPGA. This kit now contains the highest capacity Xilinx FPGA of any distributor-offered development kit. With it, designers can prototype and develop complex, intellectual property core (IP core)-intensive embedded applications for networking, storage, high-speed serial interface, digital video and DSP markets. The kit comes with schematics, layout, bill of materials, demonstration code and a comprehensive board-support package to accelerate time to market. A host of IP cores, applications code, third-party tools and add-on hardware modules can be used to further extend the kit to create the platform required to prototype a specific application.

The development kit includes a full-featured implementation of the embedded Linux operating system with a significant amount of on-board memory and high-speed serial ports. These features make it an ideal development platform for a variety of embedded applications in packet processing, network security, storage area networks, video processing, serial IO standards like RapidIO, Infiniband and Fibre Channel as well as proprietary high-speed serial back-plane interconnect. The port of the embedded Linux operating system is based on Linux Kernel version 2.4 and includes a boot loader, RamDisk, serial console, and virtual memory support.
