Portal and Siebel Help Differentiate Cablevision's Business

by Enabling Advanced Cable Services

Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSF) today announced that Cablevision Mexico, a fully owned subsidiary of Grupo Televisa, the largest Hispanic communications company in the world, has implemented Portal's billing solution as part of its strategy to differentiate its business by offering a unique combination of advanced digital services.

Portal's highly flexible billing solution enables Cablevision Mexico to innovate and lead its market with a variety of promotional and bundled offers. Deploying Portal's billing solution allows Cablevision Mexico to bring new services to market faster; thereby creating new revenue streams and optimizing its bandwidth usage profitability while achieving lower total cost of ownership.

The Portal solution deployed by Cablevision provisions network elements in real-time, controlling revenue assurance and management and delivering critical insight into customer revenue. The project is an end-to-end engagement including the replacement of the previous application. The deployment of Portal's solution was accomplished on time and on budget.

Cablevision Mexico selected Portal over its incumbent billing system to attain the agility to support and bill for a wide range of convergent services, including analog cable TV, digital cable TV, digital cable modem, pay-per-view, interactive applications and future voice services.

"Cablevision has made a strategic commitment to revamp our infrastructure to enhance market share," stated Jean-Paul Broc, chief executive officer, Cablevision Mexico. "Portal's real-time solutions enable us to capture new business by speeding time to market for new services targeted at lucrative market segments. Further, with real-time management and provisioning of all digital cable and pay-per-view services, we stand to dramatically improve our cost of operations by reducing truck rolls, piracy, and expenses for customer care."

"Cable service providers today are often prevented from launching lucrative advanced cable services because of outdated billing systems with limited support for new services, pricing plans, and promotional opportunities," said Bruce Grainger, vice president, Latin America, Portal Software. "Portal and Siebel have installed a billing solution that has enabled Cablevision to meet its goals of reducing billing costs and speeding time to market with differentiated services."

To better manage customer interactions for a wide range of digital TV and Internet services, Cablevision Mexico has launched the Portal billing solutions with Siebel Systems for customer relationship management (CRM). Together, these solutions deliver a unified view of the customer designed to improve customer satisfaction while driving operational efficiencies and lowering costs for the service provider.

"A unified approach to billing and CRM enables Cablevision Mexico to successfully manage the wide range of innovative services and bundles that they will be offering," stated Ali Hamid Yahya Karim, Group Manager, Northern Latin America at Siebel Systems. "Portal and Siebel have extensive experience in supporting complex service environments that scale to support millions of subscribers. With the ability to accurately access critical customer information across services, Cablevision Mexico can accelerate time to revenue for new services."
