Former District Attorney Kevin Burke Joins Gadsby Hannah LLP

Gadsby Hannah LLP, a leading business and technology law firm, announced today that former Essex County District Attorney and State Representative Kevin M. Burke has joined the firm as Of Counsel.

Mr. Burke, a partner in the Boston-based international security consulting firm Burke & Mawn Consultants, formerly known as O'Toole Associates LLC and led by newly-appointed Boston Police Commissioner Kathleen O'Toole, will join Gadsby Hannah's Government Relations practice, which counsels private and public sector clients on legislative and regulatory issues. He will focus his practice on providing businesses with strategic and tactical counsel on homeland security issues and government-related business development issues.

As Of Counsel, Burke joins Gadsby Hannah's prominent Government Relations practice, which includes Lewin, the former chief legal counsel to Massachusetts Governors Paul Cellucci and Jane Swift; Brian Leary, former news anchor for Boston's ABC News affiliate, WCVB-TV; and, Peter Zuk, former project director of Boston's Central Artery/Tunnel Project (the Big Dig).

Mr. Burke served as district attorney for the Eastern District (Essex County, Massachusetts) from 1979 to 2003. In this position he was responsible for a $7 million budget and led a workforce of 140 prosecutors, investigators and victim rights advocates. As district attorney, Mr. Burke was a leader in developing legislation and legal policy in the state and across the nation. In particular, he was the author of the Massachusetts Victim's Bill of Rights and founded the state's first Child Sexual Abuse Unit that specialized in forensic interviews, which became a national model. He serves on the board of directors of Northeast Health Systems, which runs several hospitals, behavioral health programs and long-term care facilities in Massachusetts. Mr. Burke has earned significant recognition for his public service work, including the 2002 Public Service Award from the Anti-Defamation League and the 2001 Access to Justice Prosecutor Award from the Massachusetts Bar Association.

Mr. Burke earned his B.A. from the University of Connecticut and his J.D. from Boston College Law School. He is the former president of the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association and a former director of the National District Attorneys Association.
