Retail Systems 2004 Show

FRISCO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2004

Fujitsu Transaction Solutions announces the immediate availability of two new models in its U-Scan line of self-checkout systems. The new U-Scan Kiosk and dual-belt U-Scan Max extend the product range to make self-checkout solutions available for more retailers.

Fujitsu will demonstrate its U-Scan Kiosk at the Retail Systems 2004 show at McCormick Place in Chicago, May 18-19, Fujitsu booth 719.

"As consumers grow accustomed to self-checkout at their supermarkets, they will expect the same convenience at other stores," said Tom Juliano, senior vice president of Fujitsu's food and drug business. "The new kiosk unit is ideal for many off-premise, non-grocery environments such as drug stores, video and music departments, food courts, convenience stores and other remote locations with limited space. It can also help the retailer differentiate its service by offering both self-checkout and ATM convenience in one compact unit.

"At the other end of the spectrum, we believe the U-Scan Max unit is the first on the market to feature a dual-belt design. This addresses the biggest complaint shoppers have -- waiting in the checkout line. The dual-belt Max speeds up the process, allowing one shopper to bag while the next is scanning," Juliano added.

U-Scan Kiosk

The U-Scan Kiosk handles debit and credit card transactions and also dispenses cash as an added convenience for the shopper. Its compact design includes one bag rack. Features include:

-- Intuitive color touch screen interface with voice prompts

-- Credit and debit card reader with secure pinpad; POS-style

receipt printer

-- Optional fingerprint reader and optional signature capture

device

-- Compact footprint: 26.5"L x 26.5"W

U-Scan Max

The U-Scan Max self-checkout is equipped with a dual takeaway belt that enables two shoppers to use a single unit at different stages in the self-checkout process. A divider placed along the center of the takeaway belt keeps items separate, allowing one shopper to scan items while a second shopper bags items from a previous order. Other key features include:

-- Coupon detector to verify coupon presence

-- Non bar-coded item editor allows layout and content

customization for items such as produce

-- Alphabetic search for non bar-coded items

-- Intuitive color touch screen interface with voice prompts

-- Media and tendering options: cash, cash back, credit and debit

cards, EBT, WIC, coupons, food stamps

-- Optional fingerprint reader and optional signature capture
